What are the types of structural steel welding processes?
When it comes to our structural steel welding services, Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding are the most common forms of welding within the fabrication of structural steel.
MIG welding is an arc welding process which uses a wire electrode, to generate an electric arc between the electrode and the metal to be welded. The arc heats and melts the wire electrode, forming a join. The wire electrode is continuously fed as it melts.
TIG welding is another arc welding method, utilising an electric arc between an electrode and the metal to be welded. However, during TIG welding, the electrode is not consumed - melting the metal to be welded instead. This weld pool is then protected by an inert shielding gas.
